Legrand, a global leader in electrical and digital building infrastructures, has earned the top spot in the 2024 Climate Trajectory Rankings for CAC 40 companies. Published by the NGO Les Ateliers du Futur, the ranking evaluates corporate efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions based on the first-half 2024 extra-financial publications for 2023.

Legrand Tops the CAC 40 Climate Trajectory Rankings for 2024

Legrand secured a score of 8.4/10, surpassing its competitors despite stricter rating criteria introduced this year. The NGO’s evaluation is based on the Net Climate Liability framework, aligned with the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD). This European directive, applicable to Legrand since January 1, 2024, defines new standards for extra-financial reporting, including transparency and accountability in climate-related disclosures.

Key Strength That Secured Legrand's Position

  1. Comprehensive Governance: Legrand's Climate Committee, which reports directly to General Management, was highlighted as a best practice within the CAC 40 index.
  2. Ambitious Climate Goals: The company’s 2030 targets are aligned with the Paris Agreement and include long-term commitments to achieve Net Zero emissions.
  3. Proactive Adaptation: Despite strengthened evaluation criteria, which caused average scores to decline across the index, Legrand improved its score by 0.6 points compared to the previous edition.

Raising the Bar in Climate Strategy

The 2024 edition of the Climate Trajectory Rankings introduced new requirements for corporate climate strategies:

  • Objectives, action plans, and financing plans must be comprehensive and Paris Agreement-compatible.
  • Greenhouse gas reduction targets must specify values for at least 2030, and where possible, 2050.

Legrand’s continued focus on science-based targets and governance innovations, such as its Carbon Steering Committee, demonstrates the company’s leadership in corporate climate responsibility.

Lola Menigaux Group Climate Manager

“This year, while average scores fell by one point due to strengthened rating criteria, Legrand's score increased by 0.6, thanks to our ambitious 2030 commitments, aligned with the Paris Agreement and our long-term Net-Zero commitment,” said Lola Menigaux, Group Climate Manager at Legrand. “Our climate governance is also recognized as a good practice within the CAC 40 index. Of course, we still have work to do to achieve our objectives, but this ranking shows that we are on the right track.”

As the world grapples with climate change, Legrand’s recognition underscores its role as a trailblazer in sustainability, setting a benchmark for corporate action within and beyond the CAC 40.
